The Pointe Shoe Makers of Hackney: “their feet are our hands”

Here is a beautiful article on pointe shoe makers for Freed of London by Photographer Patricia NiSpitalfields Life / Sarah Winmanven and Novelist Sarah Winman for Spitalfields Life.  I really love the contrast, as in ballet itself, between all the ethereal beauty that is promised by the delicacy, the history, the sheer pinkness of the shoes, and the graft that is implied by the work places and tools, and the makers’ descriptions of their aching hands and shoulders.
